魏祖答孔。是知英人開尊道之情。習生貽安。則見令主弘信法之心。所以有取二書指存兩事。又支遁敷翰遠公等江南僧業故兼錄之。

The progenitor of the Wei replied to Kong, which shows how outstanding men opened their minds to venerating the Way; Xisheng sent [letters] to Dao'an, which reveals how an enlightened lord possessed the intention to propagate faith in the Dharma. For this reason, these two texts were selected, aiming to preserve both matters. Furthermore, the monastic achievements south of the Yangtze by Zhi Dun in composing writings, Master Huiyuan, and others, are therefore also recorded.
