[He built] monasteries and further adorned them. When he proclaimed and explained [the teaching] to the imperial clan, none failed to accept it in faith. During the Wu court, Sengui repeatedly expounded the saddharma and prayed on behalf of the multitude. At Jianchu Si, he translated numerous sūtras; many have lost their originals, as set forth in the separate [catalogue]. Furthermore, he annotated various sūtras and composed prefaces for them; they all wondrously captured the true essence, their wording and meaning being completely fitting. The sūtras he annotated, such as the Anban shouyi, Fajing, and Daoshu, are fully seen in the catalogues. He also transmitted Indian chanting (fanbai); his voice was exceedingly clear, fine, sorrowful, bright, and resonant in its modulations, and down to the present day people take it as a model. In the fourth year of the Tianji reign era of Wu (280 CE), in the fourth month, [Sun] Hao surrendered to the Jin; in the ninth month, Sengui passed away. This is seen in the various biographies, records, and Fei Changfang's Sanbao ji.
