Shi Daoji, at the beginning of the Zhenguan era, resided at Fucheng Monastery in Yizhou. He could recite the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra fluently. Wearing clean robes and bathing were his regular practice; compassion and universal deliverance were truly his deep-seated intentions. He passed away in the fifth month during blazing heat, yet the corpse did not rot or smell. For more than a hundred days, he sat cross-legged as before. None among the monastics or laity failed to praise him.
