The monk Kongzang lived at Huichang Si in the capital during the Zhenguan era. He chanted over three hundred fascicles of sūtras and made expounding and transforming others his occupation. Wandering through rivers and plains, wherever he had a karmic connection he went. Formerly he went to Mount Fu'er in Lantian to chant sūtras, taking six dou of flour intended as a monthly supply. But after three full weeks, though he ate two sheng each day, it still could not be exhausted. He also moved a divine cauldron [to appear], not knowing whence it came. Later he went to Yuquan, intending it to be his final resting place. At that time there was a severe drought and the spring dried up, so the entire monastery was about to disband. Zang prayed with the utmost sincerity, and the spring immediately gushed and overflowed in response. Monastics and laypeople changed countenance, marveling and sighing without end. In the sixteenth year of Zhenguan, he passed away at the capital monastery, and was taken back to be buried at the mountain.
