The śramaṇa Paramiti, which in Chinese means 'Utmost Measure', was a native of Central India. Cherishing the Way, he surveyed the regions, delivering beings according to conditions. Journeying and teaching from place to place, he reached our Cīna (custom in India calls Guangzhou 'Cīna' and the imperial capital 'Mahācīna'). He then resided at the Zhizhi Bodhimaṇḍa in Guangzhou. Knowing his extensive erudition, the assembly offered many requests. With the intention of benefiting living beings, he unfolded these esoteric depths. On the twenty-third day, xinchou, of the fifth month, whose new moon was yimao, in the first year of Shenlong, a longji yisi year (705), he recited from the Abhiṣeka Section a chapter entitled Da foding rulai miyin xiuzheng liaoyi zhu pusa wanxing shoulengyan jing (Śūraṅgama-sūtra) in one work (10 fascicles). The śramaṇa Meghaśikha of Oḍḍiyāna (śikha is slightly corrupted as shijia; properly it should be shuoxie, which means 'Cloud Peak') served as interpreter. Fang Rong of Qinghe, Disciple of the Bodhisattva Precepts, former Grand Counselor of the Remonstrance, and Concurrent Manager of Affairs with the Secretariat-Chancellery, served as scribe. The śramaṇa Huaidi of Nanlou Monastery on Mount Luofu in Xunzhou certified the translation. After completing the transmission of this scripture, the monk took ship and returned to the west. Taking advantage of an envoy going south, [the text] was circulated here.
