從佛般泥洹下一十三經並出長阿含中。
Dīrghāgama Sūtra, 22 fascicles, 2 cases. Translated by the tripiṭaka master Buddhayaśas from Jibin together with Zhu Fonian under the Later Qin. (Combining sole and duplicate translations.)
The above sūtra has 4 sections, comprising 30 distinct sūtras in all. (Sengzhao's preface states: "The Dīrgha[-āgama] has 4 sections and 4 recitations, combining 30 sūtras into a single work.")
Madhyamāgama Sūtra, 60 fascicles (or 58 fascicles, 6 cases). Translated by the tripiṭaka master Gautama Saṅghadeva from Jibin under the Eastern Jin. (Second translation; of the two translations, one is lost.)
The above sūtra has 5 recitations, comprising 18 chapters and 222 distinct sūtras in all. (Sengzhao's Dīrgha[-āgama] preface states: "The Madhyama[-āgama] has 4 sections and 5 recitations.")
Ekottarikāgama Sūtra, 51 fascicles (or 50 fascicles, or 42, or 33; 5 cases). Translated by the tripiṭaka master Gautama Saṅghadeva from Jibin under the Eastern Jin. (Second translation; of the two translations, one is lost.)
The above sūtra has 50 chapters, comprising 472 distinct sūtras in all. (Sengzhao's Dīrgha[-āgama] preface states: "The Ekottara[-āgama] has 4 sections and 8 recitations.")
Saṃyuktāgama Sūtra, 50 fascicles (5 cases). Translated by the tripiṭaka master Guṇabhadra from Tianzhu under the Song. (Combining sole and duplicate translations.)
As this sūtra discourses on miscellaneous matters, it has no divisions into chapters, recitations, and the like. (Sengzhao's Dīrgha[-āgama] preface states: "The Saṃyukta[-āgama] has 4 sections and 10 recitations.")
Alternative Translation of the Saṃyuktāgama Sūtra, 20 fascicles (2 cases). Anonymous translation. (Interlinear notes in the text contain the words 'Qin language'; although the translator's name is not definitively known, it was certainly translated in the Three Qin era, and is now appended to the Qin catalogue.)
Although the order of this sūtra's text differs from the preceding sūtra, careful examination shows that it does not go beyond the preceding sūtra; this is merely an abridgment, and is therefore treated as a separate work. (The various sūtras from the Fo bannihuan jing downward are all separate sūtras from the four āgamas with different translations.)
Fo bannihuan jing, 2 fascicles (or simply Nihuan jing). Translated by the śramaṇa Bai Fazu of Henai under the Western Jin.
Daban niepan jing, 3 fascicles (or 2 fascicles). Translated by the śramaṇa Shi Faxian of Pingyang under the Eastern Jin. (Now attributed to Faxian as translation, as described in the General Catalogue.)
Bannihuan jing, 2 fascicles (or without the character 'ban'). Newly designated as an anonymous translation, appended to the Eastern Jin catalogue.
The above three sūtras are extracted from fascicles 2 through 4 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and are different translations of the same text as the Youxing jing in the first section. (Various catalogues all state that the Bannihuan jing was translated by Guṇabhadra of the Song dynasty, which is incorrect. Examining its phrasing, most of it represents an old translation, completely unlike the translations of Guṇabhadra. In the canons there is only the upper fascicle and no lower fascicle; having now lost its origin, it is catalogued under the Jin. Some sūtra copies have the upper fascicle of the Fo bannihuan jing completely identical in wording with the upper fascicle of the Bannihuan jing, which is an error in the manuscripts.)
Ren ben yu sheng jing, 1 fascicle. Translated by the Parthian tripiṭaka master An Shigao under the Later Han.
The above is extracted from fascicle 10 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and is a different translation of the same text as the Da fangbian jing in the second section. (The inclusion of this Ren ben yu sheng jing among the Mahāyāna sūtras in various earlier catalogues was an error.)
Shijialuoyue liu xiang bai jing, 1 fascicle (or Shijialuoyue liu hu li jing). Translated by the Parthian tripiṭaka master An Shigao under the Later Han.
The above is extracted from fascicle 11 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and is a different translation of the same text as the Shansheng jing in the second section. (Compared to the root sūtra, this is slightly abbreviated; this sūtra is also found in fascicle 33 of the Madhyamāgama.)
Fanzhi aba jing, 1 fascicle (one [catalogue] adds the characters 'Fo kai jie'; also titled Aba mona jing). Translated by the Yuezhi upāsaka Zhi Qian under the Wu.
The above is extracted from fascicle 13 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and is a different translation of the same text as the Amozhou jing in the third section.
Fanwang liushier jian jing, 1 fascicle (also titled Fan jing). Translated by the Yuezhi upāsaka Zhi Qian under the Wu.
The above is extracted from fascicle 14 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and is a different translation of the same text as the Fandong jing in the third section.
Jizhi guo jing, 1 fascicle. Translated by the Western Regions śramaṇa Zhu Tanwulan under the Eastern Jin.
The above is extracted from fascicle 17 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and is a different translation of the same text as the Shamen guo jing in the third section.
The above 8 sūtras, 12 fascicles, share a single case.
Qishi jing, 10 fascicles (1 case). Translated by the Indian tripiṭaka master Jñānagupta and others under the Sui. (Appears in the sūtra title; fifth translation.)
Qishi yinben jing, 10 fascicles (to prevent confusion with the former version, it is separately titled Qishi yinben jing below the heading; 1 case). Translated by the Indian tripiṭaka master Dharmagupta under the Sui. (Found in the Neidian lu; sixth translation; gathered from omissions and catalogued here. I respectfully note: the Great Tang Neidian Lu and Jingmai's Jingtu both state that the tripiṭaka master Dharmagupta translated the Qishi jing in 10 fascicles during the Daye era at the Translation Hall of the Shanglin Garden in the Eastern Capital. Now, upon inspecting the various canons, there are two versions: although their general purport is the same, their wording is slightly different, and there are occasional discrepancies in chapter titles. The former sūtra begins by saying that the Bhagavān was in the city of Shepoti [Śrāvastī], whereas the latter sūtra says that the Bhagavān was in the city of Sheluopoxidi [Śrāvastī]. Judging from the Sanskrit, the latter sūtra is correct. I consider that Jñānagupta and Dharmagupta each translated a separate version. Moreover, the head title of the former sūtra states that the two masters Jñānagupta and Dharmagupta produced it together. Now the former is taken as Jñānagupta's translation, and the latter as Dharmagupta's re-translation. Since the texts of the two sūtras differ, both works are now preserved. Furthermore, the Yuansheng jing also has 'the Bhagavān was in the city of Sheluopoxidi'; hence we know it was likewise translated by Dharmagupta. For fear that the two versions might be confused, it is separately titled Qishi yinben below the heading.)
Loutan jing, 6 fascicles (or Daloutan jing; or 5 fascicles; or 8 fascicles). Translated by the Western Jin śramaṇa Shi Fali together with Faju. (Second translation.)
The above three sūtras are extracted from fascicles 18 through 22 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and are different translations of the same text as the Jishi jing in the fourth section.
Chang ahan shibao fa jing, 2 fascicles (also titled Duo zeng dao zhang jing, or simply Shibao jing). Translated by the Parthian tripiṭaka master An Shigao under the Later Han.
The above is extracted from fascicle 9 of the Dīrghāgama Sūtra, and is a different translation of the same text as the Shishang jing in the second section. (There is slight variation in degree of detail.)
Zhong benqi jing, 2 fascicles (or Taizi zhong benqi jing; the heading at the beginning of the sūtra states 'extracted from the Dīrghāgama'). Translated by the Western Regions śramaṇa Danguo together with Kang Mengxiang under the Later Han.
The above 3 sūtras, 10 fascicles, share a single case. (The title of this Zhong benqi jing states 'extracted from the Dīrghāgama', but an examination of the grand text of the Dīrghāgama shows no such individual sūtra; perhaps the Sanskrit text was not fully translated. Since it says it was extracted therefrom, it is provisionally placed at the end. The Great Zhou Catalogue's statement that it is a different translation of the same text as the Guoqu xianzai yinguo jing, the Xiuxing benqi jing, and the Ruiying benqi jing is erroneous. Moreover, various catalogues all state that this Zhong benqi jing was translated in the Later Han, but in places where Sanskrit terms are translated in the text itself, it says 'the Jin language'; the reason for this is unclear.)
The thirteen sūtras from the Fo bannihuan jing downward are all extracted from within the Dīrghāgama.
