(Qifu Qin) Śramaṇa Shi Shengjian (15 works, 24 fascicles of sūtras)
Old and new anonymous translations from the Three Qin eras (41 works, 86 fascicles; 7 works in 7 fascicles from the old compilation, 34 works in 79 fascicles newly appended):
Luomojia jing, 3 fascicles (a partial different translation of the "Entry into the Dharma Realm" chapter of the Avataṃsaka; see Neidian lu).
Crown Prince Sudāna Sūtra, 1 fascicle (an extracted, different translation of the second fascicle of the Liudu ji; translated at Xin Temple in Jiangling with Yu Shuang taking it down in writing; also called Xudanuo; see Shixing lu and Baochang lu; it properly belongs to the Jin period, but following the person it is appended to the Qin).
Śyāma Sūtra, 1 fascicle (also named Filial Son Śyāma Sūtra, Bodhisattva Śyāma Sūtra, Sūtra of Śyāma Spoken by the Buddha, Fundamental Śyāma Sūtra, and Filial Son Yin Sūtra, six titles in all; fourth translation, an extracted different translation of the second fascicle of the Liudu ji; see Shixing lu and Fashang lu).
Mahā-kṣatradhātu Sūtra, 1 fascicle (also named Sūtra on Anointing Buddha Images, or simply Sūtra on Anointing the Buddha; second translation, same text as the Sūtra on Bathing and Anointing Buddha Images; see Shixing lu).
Sūtra of the Dharma Gate of the Limitless Dhāraṇī, 1 fascicle (also named Sūtra of the Limitless; same text as the Sūtra Spoken by Bodhisattva Āryaprabha and others; first translation; see Shixing lu and Fashang lu).
Sūtra on Explaining the Karmic Actions of the Clergy and Laity, 1 fascicle (second translation; same text as Zhi Qian's translation; see Fashang lu).
Sūtra on Dispelling Terrors and Calamities, 1 fascicle (second translation; same text as Bo Yan's translation; see the three catalogues Shixing, Baochang, and Fashang).
Bhadraśrī Sūtra, 1 fascicle (also named Lady Bhadraśrī Sūtra; see Shixing lu).
Ānanda's Distinction Sūtra, 1 fascicle (also named Sūtra on Ānanda Asking About the Good and Bad Auspices of Serving the Buddha; third translation; see Shixing lu and Fashang lu).
Sūtra on the Woman Meeting with Calamity, 1 fascicle (also named Sūtra on the Woman Meeting with Retribution; see Shixing and Fashang catalogues. The above are extant; those below are lost).
Vaipulyamukhya-ākāśagarbha-sūtra, 8 fascicles (also called Sūtra Asked by Ākāśagarbha, or Sūtra on Exhorting and Inspiring Bodhisattvas to Adorn Bodhi, sometimes in 5 fascicles; an extracted, different translation of the Ākāśagarbha chapter of the Mahāsaṃnipāta; see Jinshi zalu and Fashang lu; [Fashang's] claim that it is the same text as the Luomojia jing is incorrect).
Sūtra on the Land of the Bodhisattva's Birth, 1 fascicle (also named Sūtra Asked by Magadha; second translation; see Zhao lu; not knowing whether it was Earlier or Later Zhao, following the person it is appended to the Western Qin; see Shixing lu).
Bope jing, 1 fascicle (third translation; see Fashang lu).
Sūtra on Kumārakāśyapa Resolving Difficulties, 1 fascicle (also called Tongjiaye jing; same text as the Jūmojiaye jing; Sengyou says it was extracted from the Dīrghāgama with Yu Shuang taking it down in writing; see four catalogues: Shixing, Wang Zong, Baochang, and Zhi Mindu).
Fundamental Sūtra on the Seven Women, 1 fascicle (also named Fundamental Sūtra of the Women's Clear Minds, or Sūtra on the Seven Women; third translation; see Zhi Mindu's Du lu).
The above 15 works in 24 fascicles (the ten works in 12 fascicles down to the Woman Meeting with Calamity are extant; the five works in 12 fascicles from the Vaipulyamukhya downwards are lost).
Śramaṇa Shi Shengjian, also called Fajian, or Venerable Jian; it is not yet clear which is correct, so all are listed.
His capacity was broad and universal, and his mind was set on benefiting living beings.
During the Taichu era of the Qifu Qin, he translated 15 works including the Luomojia jing for Qifu Gangui (posthumous title King Wuyuan) in the Henan State.
Investigating Shengjian's missionary travels, he produced sūtras wherever he went; since he had no fixed residence, it is unknown to which dynasty's catalogue he should properly be attached.
Now, following Fashang's general annotation, he is entered into the catalogue of the Qifu Qin period.
Śrāmeraka Sūtra, 1 fascicle (second translation, same text as the Sūtra of Five Mothers and Sons).
King Sarvasa Sūtra, 1 fascicle.
Adhasamādhi Sūtra, 1 fascicle (Adha sometimes written with a variant character).
King Tuoxian Sūtra, 1 fascicle.
Bhadra Repentance Sūtra, 1 fascicle.
Vaipulya Decision Sūtra, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra on the Bhikṣu's Two Matters, 1 fascicle (You's catalogue says "three matters"; the above seven works are listed in Sengyou's catalogue as Dao'an's anomalous sūtras of Guanzhong).
The above 7 works in 7 fascicles (the first, the Śrāmeraka Sūtra, is extant; the rest are all lost).
Changfang's catalogue states that these were all extracted by Śramaṇa Sengyou from the anomalous sūtras of Guanzhong recorded by Shi Dao'an in his Compilation of Notes on the Tripiṭaka.
Now they are returned and appended to the catalogue of the Three Qin periods, collectively treated as of anonymous translation, unknown date and place.
Fang's catalogue also has a Sanskrit text of a sūtra in 4 fascicles (annotated below: "seems to have been produced in Chang'an"); it is already contained in the catalogue of anonymous translations of the Later Han, and being recorded here again as a duplicate, it is deleted and not retained.
Those below are newly appended to this catalogue:
Devarāja Prince Pila Sūtra, 1 fascicle (sometimes without the words "Devarāja"; also called Crown Prince Pila Sūtra).
Sūtra on the Bodhisattva's Past Practices, 1 fascicle.
Mahāratnakūṭa Weiri Sūtra, 1 fascicle.
Duojialuo Questions the Bodhisattva Sūtra, 1 fascicle.
Spell Sūtra for Ānanda Beset by Gu Sorcery, 1 fascicle (old catalogues say: Sūtra on Ānanda Being Bewitched by Gu Sorcery; now suspected to be the Mātaṅgī Sūtra in the canon).
Sūtra on Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa in Rājagṛha, 1 fascicle (old catalogues say: Essential True Sūtra of Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa in Rājagṛha).
Sūtra on Contemplating the Way, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra on the Buddha in the Bamboo Grove, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra on the Dharma for Humanity, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra on the Intention for the Way, 1 fascicle.
Bhikṣu Āyi Sūtra, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra of the Eight Virtues, 1 fascicle (now suspected to be the Sūtra of the Eight Virtues of the Ocean).
Sūtra on the Good and Virtuous, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra on the Deliverance of Mahāgandha, Weiwealuo, the Monk Jinxin, and Others, 1 fascicle (old catalogues say: Monk Jinxin Sūtra).
The above 14 works in 14 fascicles (the first, the Crown Prince Pila Sūtra, is extant; the rest are all lost).
Sengyou's catalogue states: "Dao'an's anomalous sūtras of Guanzhong."
Catalogues like Changfang's all omitted them and did not record them.
You recorded Dao'an's anomalous sūtras of Guanzhong, totaling 24 works in 24 fascicles; among them, seven works are listed as in Fang's catalogue.
Now 14 sūtras are further brought out, making 21 works altogether.
For the remaining three works, catalogues such as Changfang's all specify the translators, so they are omitted here.
Mahāratnakūṭa Sūtra, 1 fascicle (now incorporated into the Ratnakūṭa as the 43rd Assembly, renamed the Assembly of Bodhisattva Prabhāpāla; third translation, different translation of the same text as the two sūtras Mahāyāna Ratnacūḍa and Buddha's Bequeathed Sun Jewel).
Sūtra on the Adornment of the Light of Wisdom of the Realm of All Buddhas, 1 fascicle (first translation; same text as the Sūtra on the Inconceivable Realm of the Virtues and Wisdom of the Tathāgata Entering the Avataṃsaka and others; the old view that it is the same text as the Sūtra on the Adornment of Wisdom Light of the Tathāgata Entering the Realm of All Buddhas is completely mistaken).
Mahākāruṇika-puṇḍarīka-sūtra, 8 fascicles (also called Mahāyāna-kāruṇika-puṇḍarīka-sūtra; second translation; same text as Dharmakṣema's Karuṇāpuṇḍarīka-sūtra and others).
Spell Sūtra of the Great Golden Peacock King, 1 fascicle (fifth translation).
Sūtra of the Great Golden Peacock King Spoken by the Buddha, 1 fascicle (sixth translation; both sūtras are of the same text).
Mahāvaipulya-tathāgataguhyakośa-sūtra, 2 fascicles (the Great Zhou catalogue's claim that it is the same text as the Mahāvaipulya-tathāgatagarbha-sūtra is incorrect).
Vajrasamādhi-svabhāvaśuddha-akṣaya-anirrodha-sūtra, 1 fascicle (also named Vajraśuddha Sūtra; catalogues like Changfang's say it was translated by Zhi Qian of Wu, and it was also recorded among the anonymous translations of the Later Han, both of which are incorrect; examining its phrasing now, it seems to be a Qin translation, hence moved and compiled here).
Jātaka Sūtra of Siṃhacandra Buddha, 1 fascicle (catalogues like Changfang's say it was translated by Dharmarakṣa of the Western Jin; examining its phrasing now, it was not produced by Dharmarakṣa, but seems to be a Qin translation, hence moved and compiled here).
Sūtra of the Ten Auspicious Signs, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra on the Causes and Conditions of the Loving-Kindness of the Omniscient Radiance Ṛṣi Not Eating Meat, 1 fascicle.
Sūtra on Purifying Karmic Obstacles, 1 fascicle.
Alternative Translation of the Saṃyuktāgama, 20 fascicles.
Sūtra on the Merits of Renouncing Household Life, 1 fascicle (not the excerpt from the Damamūka-nidāna-sūtra).
Vinayamātṛkā Sūtra, 8 fascicles (also called Vinayamātṛkā Śāstra).
Sarvāstivāda-vinaya-vibhāṣā, 9 fascicles.
Saṃmatīya-nikāya Śāstra, 3 fascicles (sometimes without the word "nikāya"; or in 4 fascicles).
Pratyekabuddha-nidāna Śāstra, 2 fascicles.
Eighteen Sects Śāstra, 1 fascicle (first translation; same text as the Samayabhedoparacanacakra and others; Fang and others all state it was translated by Paramārtha, which is incorrect).
Sūtra on Guhyapada Vajrapāṇi's Lamentation upon the Buddha's Parinirvāṇa, 1 fascicle.
Compilation of the Rākṣasa of Ignorance, 1 fascicle (also called Sūtra of the Rākṣasa of Ignorance; or in 2 fascicles).
The above 20 works in 65 fascicles are all extant sūtras entered in the canon.
They appear to have been translated during the Qin (several sūtras contain the words "in Qin speech"), and none of the catalogues of anonymous translations had recorded them.
Now they are appended to this Qin catalogue, hoping to prevent their omission.
Together with the aforementioned 7 works in 7 fascicles of old anonymous translations and the newly appended anomalous sūtras of Guanzhong from Dao'an, there are in total 41 works comprising 86 fascicles, all designated as anonymous translations of the Three Qin.
