Upāsaka Zhi Shilun was a man of the Yuezhi. He had a comprehensive mastery of the various sūtras and was particularly skilled in the Vaipulya teachings. With his mind set on converting and transforming, and transmitting what had not yet been heard, he came traveling with sūtras and reached the land of Liang. Lord Zhang saw and esteemed him, and requested him to translate them. In the third year of the Xian'an era, a guiyou year (following the Jin reign title), beneath the Zhanlu Pavilion behind the main hall in Liangzhou prefecture, he produced four works including the Surata Sūtra. Bo Yan, the heir apparent of the King of Kucha, transmitted the spoken words; Zhao Xiao, Attendant-in-ordinary of Xihai, Ma Yi, Magistrate of Huishui, and Lai Gongzheng, Palace Attendant, the three of them took them down in writing. Śramaṇas Shi Huichang and Shi Jinxing were together present at the assembly as witnesses. Liangzhou itself composed the text without adding embellishment. Taken from the postscript to the Surata Sūtra and the postscript to the Śūraṅgamasamādhi Sūtra. (During the Former Liang era, more sūtras should have been produced; if later scholars encounter them, may they continue to compile and append them).
