...the imperial grace and decree, we dare not delay. We request that the burial take place on the seventh day of the coming month in the Pavilion Compound of Chenzhang Village, east of Yanxing Gate in the capital.' I respectfully submit this memorial and humbly await the imperial decree." On the same day, Cui Shi, the Secretariat Director, proclaimed the imperial decree: "The late Tripiṭaka Translation Master Yijing should be posthumously conferred the title of Chamberlain for the Guannei (Honglu qing) and granted one hundred and fifty bolts of goods; funeral expenses are to be officially provided in accordance with precedent." On the thirtieth day of the first month, Minister Cui Shi, Grand Master of the Silver-Blue Radiance, Acting Secretariat Director, Left Mentor to the Crown Prince, Academician of the Zhaowenguan, Pillar of State, and Founding Duke of Zhongshan Commandery, proclaimed to the Chancellery: "The late Tripiṭaka Master Yijing's mind of the Way was subtle, and his mansion of virtue exceedingly lofty. Possessing the wisdom of water poured from one vessel to another, he was endowed with the clarity of the mirror of wisdom. Traversing far to remote regions, he personally transmitted the secret treasury. His bequeathed writings are exceptionally complete, comparable to the dhāraṇī of Kumārajīva; his fine analysis of principles equals the profound insight of Master Daosheng. Appearing when conditions were met, he manifested extinction as conditions dissolved. We lament that the cloud of the Dharma leaves no shadow, and grieve that the ancestral master could not remain. Although the gate of the Way is ever tranquil, and he had already attained the tolerance of the non-arising [of dharmas], the court honours the worthy and should grant honours upon the conclusion of his life. He may be posthumously awarded the title of Chamberlain for the Guannei (Honglu qing). Let the relevant authorities carry this out." On the sixth day of the second month, the palace official Ma Xiaozhong and Liu Puci, the Officer of the Fan, jointly escorted the silk, banners, flowers, and other items bestowed from the palace: twenty-eight carriages of incense-flower platters, eighteen large and small carriages of incense-flower trees, four carriages of banners, and four carriages of coins and wealth (totalling fifty-four carriages); four hundred-foot banners (with poles), eighty attendant banners, twenty forty-nine-foot banners, two hundred and forty attendant banners, one hundred bodhimaṇḍa banners, and one hundred large and small multicoloured banners (with carriage mountings)—a total of five hundred and forty-four banners; four hundred bolts of silk; and one set of icons.
