"An imperial decree to the Tripiṭaka Preceptor Amoghavajra: The late Tripiṭaka Master Vajra[bodhi] possessed a natural endowment extraordinarily preeminent, having received a disposition tranquil and harmonious. His understanding penetrated the four modes of birth, and his mind reposed in the six perfections. Thereupon from the Western Regions, staff in hand, he came east, cultivating pure conduct (brahmacarya) throughout his person and aiding living beings with a compassionate heart. The flower of awakening shone without, while the torch of wisdom burned bright within. Drawing forth the deluded multitudes, he bore witness to and accorded with complete quiescence. Having secretly transmitted the Dharma-seal, he manifested his concealment in nirvāṇa. While his robes and bowl remain empty, his splendid demeanor has departed forever. His teachings can be handed down to posterity, and propriety demands that honors adorn his end. It is fitting to proclaim his fine renown so that it may harmonize with his glory. Let him be posthumously conferred the title of Grand Master of the Palace with Dignity Equal to the Three Ministers (Kaifu yitong sansi), and furthermore let him be posthumously granted the title Tripiṭaka [Master] of Great Propagation of the Teaching (Dahongjiao Sanzang). The worldly canons say that 'a mother becomes noble through her son'; now in the Śākya clan, the master is glorified through his disciple. It is hoped that across ten thousand ages and a thousand autumns this will be transmitted without decaying."
Furthermore, on the twelfth day of the sixth month in the third year of the Dali era [768 CE], a memorial was submitted regarding the stupa of the late Grand Master of the Palace with Dignity Equal to the Three Ministers, Tripiṭaka Master of Great Propagation of the Teaching, at Longmen in the Eastern Capital, concerning the unregistered monks Huiheng and Huiduan who sweep and sprinkle it, the postulant Zhao Yuanji (Dharma-name Huifan), Tian Rongguo (Dharma-name Huijun), and the novice Li Baoda.
The above-mentioned Specially Advanced, Probationary Director of the Court of State Ceremonial, Tripiṭaka Śramaṇa of Daxingshan Monastery, Amoghavajra of Vast and Great Wisdom, memorializes: "The unregistered monks and others mentioned above previously served the late great preceptor, attending to the incense and lamps diligently over cumulative years. Their will and nature are gentle and compliant, steadfast and unflagging. I request that they be granted official ordination names, and that the stupa placard then be sent, so they may reside there to sprinkle and sweep, hoping thereby to requite his boundless kindness to the end and fulfill their duties as disciples. The postulants, novice, and others have all long practiced the mantras and concurrently recited the scriptures; without departing from the cloister, their training has already been accomplished. I prostrate myself to beg that they be granted tonsure to encourage their cultivation and practice." An imperial decree ordered: "Approved as requested."
On the same day, another memorial was submitted requesting:
