The Bodhisattva Piṭaka is the teaching expounded by the Mahāyāna. In general terms of the Lord of the Teaching, the dharmakāya is eternally abiding, without cessation and without arising. As for the principle it expounds, the vaipulya thusness transcends name and is devoid of marks. In general, there are the differences of the three piṭakas; in detail, there are twelve sections, beginning with generating the aspiration [for awakening] and culminating in the ten grounds. The explanations of the three knowledges and eight liberations, and the designations of the six perfections and four means of embracing—classifications such as these are called this Piṭaka. From the dingmao year of Emperor Ming of the Han down to the gengchen year of our Zhenyuan era, those currently circulating total 808 works, combining to 2,988 fascicles in 267 wrappers. The general and specific regulations of the Mahāyāna Dharma Piṭaka are fully set forth below.
