The Buddha addressed the great king: "You previously said: 'How can the characteristics of sentient beings be transformed?' If one sees what is illusory and transformed with an illusory and transformed body, this is the bodhisattva's true practice of transforming sentient beings. The consciousness of sentient beings, in its very first thought of consciousness, is different from wood and stone; it is born with innate good and born with innate evil. Evil is the root of immeasurable evil consciousnesses, and good is the root of immeasurable good consciousnesses. From the first thought to the final vajra-like thought, incalculable and unspeakable consciousnesses are born within them, constituting the form and mind of sentient beings, which are the root of sentient beings. Form is called the hindrance of form; mind is called the hindrance of consciousness, the hindrance of perception, the hindrance of feeling, and the hindrance of mental formations. The function of a hindrance is to shroud and cover; 'body' means an accumulation.
