"Great King! Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas, while within the ultimate truth, constantly illuminate the two truths to transform sentient beings. Buddhas and sentient beings are one and not two. Why is this? Because sentient beings are empty, bodhi can be posited as empty; because bodhi is empty, sentient beings can be posited as empty. Because all dharmas are empty, there is the emptiness of emptiness. Why is this? Prajñā is markless, the two truths are like empty space, and prajñā is empty; from ignorance up to sarvajñā, there are no self-characteristics and no other-characteristics. Therefore, when the five eyes are perfected, seeing sees nothing to be seen; they do not apprehend practice, do not apprehend non-practice, do not apprehend neither practice nor non-practice, and up to all dharmas, they do not apprehend them. When a bodhisattva has not yet attained buddhahood, he takes bodhi to be afflictions; when a bodhisattva attains buddhahood, he takes afflictions to be bodhi. Why is this? Because in the ultimate truth there is no duality, and because all buddhas, Tathāgatas, and even all dharmas are suchness."
