At that time, Śākyamuni Buddha, endowed with the ten epithets, the three knowledges, the great truth of cessation, and diamond-like wisdom, on the eighth day of the first month sat squarely in the ten stages, entered the samādhi of the Great Quiescent Room, contemplated conditions, and emitted a great beam of light that illuminated the three realms. Moreover, from the crown of his head emerged a thousand-jeweled lotus flower; that flower reached up to the naivasaṃjñānāsaṃjñāyatana heaven, and its light was likewise so, extending even to the buddha-lands as numerous as the sands of the Ganges in other directions. At that time, the formless realm rained down immeasurable varieties of great fragrant flowers, their fragrance like chariot wheels and the flowers like Mount Sumeru, King of Mountains, descending like clouds; the eighteen Brahma heaven kings rained down hundreds of varieties of flowers of diverse colors; the devas of the six desire heavens rained down flowers of immeasurable colors. Before the Buddha's seat there naturally arose nine million koṭis of kalpa-flowers, reaching up to the naivasaṃjñānāsaṃjñāyatana heaven, and at that time the earth of this world shook in six ways.
