The Buddha told King Prasenajit: “After my parinirvāṇa, when the Dharma is about to be extinguished, those who uphold this prajñāpāramitā will perform great buddha-work. That all realms are stably established and the myriad common folk enjoy happiness is entirely due to this prajñāpāramitā. For this reason, I entrust it to kings, not to monks, nuns, laymen, or laywomen. Why is this? Because they lack royal power, I do not entrust it to them. You must receive, hold, read, and recite it, and comprehend its meaning and principles.
