'Good sons! Prior to the stage of practice-kṣānti, one passes through ten thousand kalpas practicing the ten good deeds with retrogression and progress, like a light feather drifting east and west with the wind. If one reaches the stage of kṣānti, one enters the group of the truly determined, does not commit the five heinous sins, does not slander the true Dharma, and because one knows that the marks of self and dharmas are all empty, one dwells in the stage of liberation. Cultivating this kṣānti for one asaṃkhyeya kalpa, one is able to give rise to superior practices.'
