At that time, the Elder Subhūti, who was in the great assembly, arose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and respectfully placed his palms together, saying to the Buddha: "How rare, Bhagavat! The Tathāgata is well mindful of the bodhisattvas and well instructs the bodhisattvas. Bhagavat, when good sons and good daughters give rise to the mind of anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi, how should they abide, and how should they subdue their minds?" The Buddha said: "Excellent, excellent! Subhūti, it is as you have said: the Tathāgata is well mindful of the bodhisattvas and well instructs the bodhisattvas. Listen attentively now, and I shall explain it for you. Good sons and good daughters who give rise to the mind of anuttarā samyaksaṃbodhi should thus abide, thus subdue their minds." "Yes, Bhagavat, we joyfully wish to hear."
