演曰。初偈明不悟解者無菩提因。後偈明不信向故法成湮滅。前令人發心。後希法久住。彼論頌云。
The Exposition says: The first verse clarifies that those who do not awaken and understand lack the cause for bodhi; the latter verse clarifies that because they do not have faith and inclination, the Dharma becomes extinguished. The former causes people to generate the mind [for awakening]; the latter aspires for the long abiding of the Dharma. That treatise's verse says:
