Sūtra: "...because of having no self, no person... no life-span." / Commentary: This explains the reason for equality. In other editions and in the treatise, all have after this: 'the one who attains equal and perfect anuttarasamyaksaṃbodhi.' That this text lacks it is merely negligence on the translator's part. The tathatā realized possesses virtues [numerous as] the sands of the Ganges; in the sūtras it is called the tathāgatagarbha, and when emerging from the sūtras [into treatises] it is called the status of the dharmakāya. The distinct names are different, but the essence has no difference. Self, person, and sentient being are the phenomena of saṃsāra; having none of those selves and the like is called the dharmakāya. Hence the treatise explains it as the 'mark of equality within the phenomena of saṃsāra.' This corresponds to the previously revealed 'pure, equal intrinsic mark.' Because of the intrinsically pure and equal mark of the selflessness of dharmas, the mark of equality of the reward body is revealed.
