Sūtra: Since the time I attained the eye of wisdom, I have never before heard such a sūtra. This is the second large section, explaining the reasons for its superiority. The text has four parts: first, it is superior because it is rare; second, it is superior because it is unlike other dharmas; third, [it is superior] because it is solid and real; fourth, it is superior because it surpasses other sūtras. This is the first part of the text. That which is called having formerly attained the eye of wisdom opened the eye of the emptiness of persons, emerged from the cognitive hindrance of afflictions, and saw the principle of selflessness; what was attained was an illusory city and was not ultimate. Now, hearing this sūtra opens the eye of the emptiness of dharmas and shatters the hindrance of the knowable; seeing the suchness of the emptiness of dharmas, that which is attained is the true reality. Hence it is called rare.
