經。入舍衛大城　演曰。第四化處。唯梁本云入舍衛大國。餘並云城已如前釋。國在城南自外之內為入處廣入多為大。西域記云。國周六十餘里內城故堦周二十餘里。智度論云。居家九億。然仙記云。城縱廣十二由旬。居人凡有十八億家者謬也。由旬舊釋是四十里城之縱廣大為遼闊。

Sūtra: ...he entered the great city of Śrāvastī...
Commentary: The fourth is the place of transformation. Only the Liang version says: "he entered the great country of Śrāvastī"; the others all say "city," as already explained before. The country was south of the city; going from outside to inside is "entering." Where the area is wide and many enter, it is "great." The Record of the Western Regions says: "The country's perimeter is more than sixty li; the ancient foundation of the inner city has a perimeter of more than twenty li." The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: "There were nine hundred million households." However, the Account of the Immortals says: "The city was twelve yojanas in length and breadth, and the inhabitants totaled eighteen hundred million households"—this is erroneous. A yojana was traditionally explained as forty li; the city's length and breadth would be exceedingly vast.
