Sūtra: 'Therefore...' to '...that Buddha's land.' Fifth, exhorting beings to vow to be born [there]. As for 'faith': the first fascicle of the Abhidharma-samuccaya-vyākhyā states: 'Regarding that which has reality, virtue, and capacity, approval, clarity, and aspiration constitute its essence; serving as the support for resolve constitutes its activity.' That is, regarding what genuinely exists in reality, one gives rise to faith of the practice of approval; regarding genuine virtue, one gives rise to faith of the practice of clarity; regarding genuine capacity, one gives rise to faith of the practice of aspiration—namely, that I have the power to attain and accomplish it. What is meant by 'good man, good woman'? The Zhaoming pusa fangbian jing states: being able to transform evil into good, being without enmity toward high or low, and having neither this nor that, is called a good man. If one can compassionately nurture the multitude of living beings like a mother raising a child, is chaste and avoids sensual desire, and is free of the marks of male and female, one is called a good woman.
