The reason why this chapter comes next: The novices among the bodhisattvas of the higher realm gave rise to a conception of inferiority regarding this land. The Tathāgata broadly explained that the buddha-works of the worlds of the ten directions are not identical, but the merits of all buddhas and tathāgatas are equal. Speaking directly to Ānanda, he subtly spurred on the bodhisattvas of the higher realm. The mahāsattvas from the higher realm personally sought to repent their errors, requested the Dharma, and returned to their land. The Tathāgata preached for them the dharma door of exhaustible and inexhaustible liberation, which is the lamp of bodhisattva practice; therefore, the Chapter on Bodhisattva [Practice] comes next. Within this chapter, the meaning is explained in eight sections.
