文四同前。第二辭不堪中。以其目連智障未遣不能即事無擁。通不現前。說法不稱。是以被呵。

The textual divisions are four, as before. In the second, his declining because he was not equal to the task: because Maudgalyāyana's cognitive obscurations were not yet dispelled, he could not engage directly with affairs without impediment. His supernatural powers did not manifest, and his preaching of the Dharma was not appropriate [to the capacity of the listeners]; on this account he was rebuked.
