'One should understand...' and so on: the second part clarifies the virtues of expounding the Dharma, turning around the previous four faults to clarify the four virtues. 'One should understand the faculties': the first reveals the speaker's virtue of knowing faculties, clearly understanding whether the faculties of sentient beings are sharp or dull. 'Skilled in knowledge and vision': the second clarifies the virtue of realizing the Dharma, because in realizing the profound Dharma there are no hindrances. 'Great compassionate mind': the third clarifies the virtue of great compassion, being skilled at expounding the Mahāyāna for sentient beings. Because the Dharma of the Mahāyāna uproots suffering to its ultimate source, compassion is accomplished. 'Repaying the Buddha's kindness': the fourth clarifies the virtue of repaying kindness, being skilled at teaching sentient beings to generate the bodhisattva mind and themselves attain buddhahood. When buddhahood is attained, there is the Dharma; when there is the Dharma, sentient beings are transformed, which is the Jewel of the Saṅgha, teaching one another in turn; thus the Three Jewels do not cease, which is repaying the Buddha's kindness.
