"In my previous lifetimes, / I was greedy, stingy, and always insolent; / I also followed bad spiritual friends, / and did not believe in the Buddha's sūtras and precepts, / causing me to take the body of a cow / and suffer boundless torment. / It was entirely due to greed, anger, and ignorance, / lasting up to sixty kalpas. / Now I finally encounter the Buddha, / like an ill person meeting a good physician. / Take my share of the milk to drink / and offer it all entirely to the Buddha. / As for me, eating grass and drinking water / will naturally suffice for today. / May I later attain wisdom, / and realize the Way, wishing to be like the Buddha."
