From here down is the third part, the general conclusion. Possessing the six virtues above, sitting in quiet contemplation in equality, universally followed by the noble ones, accords with and pleases the Buddha's mind; hence it says 'sealed with approval'. This clause concludes the virtues. 'At that time, World-Honoured One, I was silent and unable to respond': The realm of superior persons is not what one can know oneself; its principle transcends ordinary sentiments; hence he says 'unable to respond'. This clause concludes the shortcomings. Truly, because the instruction and rebuke up to this point explained both gains and losses together, both are now concluded together: he wishes to lead the assembly at that time to share in those gains. From 'Therefore I am not competent' onward is the fourth part, concluding his incompetence.
