At that time the elder's son Ratnarāśi, having spoken these verses, addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One, these five hundred elders' sons have all already set their minds on anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi." Below, this clarifies the main body of the text. Because the gathering of the canopies in the preceding preface section astonished their minds, inspiring praise and awakening faith, here, in accord with their capacity, they are enlightened, realize the fruit, and gain benefit, in three parts: first, the half chapter of "Buddha Land," where the Dharma King establishes the fundamental theme; second, the nine chapters from "Upāya" onward, where the mahāsattvas assist the Buddha in propagating the transformation; third, the two chapters of "Bodhisattva Practice" and "Seeing Akṣobhya," where, the matter of propagation being completed, they return to the Buddha's seal of confirmation—just as when a king promulgates a righteous edict, the ministers execute the business, and when the business is finished, they pay court to the sovereign. The first section has two parts: first, Ratnarāśi's request to expound; second, the Tathāgata's response. The first request has two parts: first, clarifying the arousing of the mind, which is the capacity capable of hearing the Dharma. Sengzhao says: "'Anuttarā' in the Qin language means 'unsurpassed.' 'Samyak-saṃbodhi' in the Qin language means 'correct and universal knowledge.' As no path is greater than it, it is 'unsurpassed.' Its path is correct and real, and there is no phenomenon it does not know, hence 'correct and universal knowledge.'"
