降伏魔怨制諸外道　此三釋歎。肇曰。魔四魔也。外道九十六種外道也。天台云。禪定伏愛得通。以降眾魔智惠破見。發辯以制外道。如問疾品明。

“Subduing the enemy Māra and controlling all tīrthikas”: This is the third part, the explanatory praise. Zhao says: “Māras are the four māras. Tīrthikas are the ninety-six kinds of tīrthikas.” Tiantai says: “Dhyāna-concentration subdues craving and attains supernormal knowledges to subdue the host of māras; wisdom shatters views and manifests eloquence to control the tīrthikas, as clarified in the Chapter on Inquiring after Illness.”
