時維摩詰來謂。我言彌勒世尊授。仁者記一生當得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提　此三廣引彈事文五。一先定得記。二破執授記。三舉例返破。四顯菩提相。五聞真得益。此初定也。生曰。阿耨多羅者無上也。三藐三者正遍也。菩提者彼語有之。此無名也。實即體極居終智慧也。一生者無復無量生。餘一生也。

"At that time Vimalakīrti came and said to me: 'Maitreya, the World-Honoured One has bestowed upon you, benevolent one, the prophecy that in one birth you shall attain anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi.'" This is the third part, broadly citing the matter of reproach; the text has five parts. First, determining the receipt of the prophecy. Second, refuting attachment to the bestowed prophecy. Third, citing examples to reverse and refute it. Fourth, revealing the characteristic of bodhi. Fifth, hearing the truth and gaining benefit. This is the first, the determination. Daosheng says: "'Anuttara' means unexcelled. 'Samyak-saṃ' means right and universal. 'Bodhi' exists in their language; there is no single word for it here. In truth, it is the wisdom that embodies the ultimate and abides at the end. 'One birth' means there are no longer immeasurable births; only one single birth remains."
