無為是菩提無生住滅故。知是菩提了眾生心行故　肇曰。菩提不有故無生滅。菩提不無故了知眾生心也。

"The unconditioned is bodhi, because it is without arising, abiding, and ceasing. Knowing is bodhi, because it completely understands the mental activities of sentient beings." Sengzhao says: Bodhi is not existent, hence it is without arising and ceasing; bodhi is not non-existent, hence it completely knows the minds of sentient beings.
