"He answered me: 'I have come from the bodhimaṇḍa.'" Second, the brief answer. Sengzhao says: A place of quiet seclusion for cultivating the path is called a bodhimaṇḍa. Prabhāvyūha's intention was a fondness for quiet solitude, and he always kept a quiet place in mind; therefore, leaving Vaiśālī, he was about to seek a bodhimaṇḍa. Jingming's profound perception foresaw this, so he manifested coming from outside to show him the true site. To unravel his restrictive attachments, he preemptively said: 'I have come from the bodhimaṇḍa.' This was to clarify that the path goes everywhere and the site is nowhere absent. If one can cherish the bodhimaṇḍa within one's breast and cast the myriad burdens outside one's body, then even if one's form dwells in noise and turmoil and one's traces neighbor worldly affairs, in roaming upon movements one is not without the bodhimaṇḍa. He also says: The principle of the true mark being pervasive is the site; the myriad practices thoroughly realizing it is the path. Daosheng says: The place of attaining Buddhahood.
