"Knowing all dharmas in a single thought-moment is the bodhimaṇḍa, because one achieves omniscience." Kumārajīva states: The two-vehicle teachings achieve the Way through thirty-four mind moments; the Great Vehicle relies solely on a single thought-moment to decisively achieve great awakening and become complete with omniscience. Sengzhao states: Omniscience is the culmination of wisdom. Radiant like the morning sun, it illuminates all darkness together; clear like a tranquil abyss, all reflections are perceived concurrently. Knowing nothing yet leaving nothing unknown—is this not omniscience alone? Why is this? If Heaven had a mind, it would have boundaries; having boundaries, it would have borders. Once borders take shape, its wisdom has limits; its wisdom having limits, what it illuminates would not be universal. The ultimate person has no mind; having no mind, he has no boundaries; having no boundaries, he has no borders. Once borders are gone, his wisdom has no limits; his wisdom having no limits, what he illuminates is boundless. Therefore, in a single thought-moment and at one time, he unfailingly knows all dharmas. Although omniscience is called the summit of practices, it is just one of the myriad practices. That which unites the accomplishments of the myriad practices—can it be anything other than the unsurpassed Way? Therefore, all the dharmas listed are bodhimaṇḍas. Daosheng states: Knowing all in a single thought-moment begins at the time of great awakening. Because all previous practices culminate in this event, it is named accordingly. Taking the direct mind as the initial meaning of practice and culminating in knowing all dharmas in a single thought-moment—is this not the place where one attains Buddhahood?
