如是諸菩薩各各向佛說其本緣。稱述維摩詰所言。皆曰。不任詣彼問疾　此是大段第二總明諸菩薩奉辭。肇曰。三萬二千菩薩皆說不任之辭。文不備載之耳。

"In this way, all the bodhisattvas each spoke to the Buddha of their original causes, recounting what Vimalakīrti had said, and all said: 'We are not capable of going there to inquire after his illness.'" This is the second major section, generally explaining the bodhisattvas declining the order. Zhao says: The thirty-two thousand bodhisattvas all made statements of incapacity; the text simply does not record them all.
