是故當知。一切煩惱為如來種。譬如不下巨海則不能得無價寶珠。如是不入煩惱大海。則不能得生一切智寶　此下結文三可見。若悟煩惱性得菩提智。如不離大海得無價珠。二乘捨煩惱求菩提。如人捨大海求無價寶。其可得乎。

"Therefore, one should know that all afflictions are the lineage of the Tathāgata. For example, if one does not descend into the great ocean, one cannot obtain the priceless jewel. In this way, if one does not enter the great ocean of afflictions, one cannot obtain the jewel of all-knowledge." From here downward is the conclusion, with three visible parts in the text. If one awakens to the nature of afflictions, one attains bodhi wisdom, just as without leaving the great ocean one obtains the priceless jewel. Those of the two vehicles abandon afflictions to seek bodhi, like a person abandoning the great ocean to seek the priceless gem: how could it be obtained?
