"Or he manifests the burning at the end of the kalpa, / Where heaven and earth are entirely ablaze; / Sentient beings harbor notions of permanence: / He illumines them, causing them to know impermanence. / Countless billions of sentient beings / And all the bodhisattvas who came along / Arrive together at their homes, / Converting them toward the Buddha path." / Part three: the two verses clarify the three great disasters. The water and wind disasters are omitted for brevity. Within the first dhyāna there are vitarka and vicāra; externally there is the fire disaster. Within the second dhyāna there is the feeling of joy; externally there is the water disaster. Within the third dhyāna there is respiration; externally there is the wind disaster. The fourth dhyāna has no disasters because it is motionless. [Kumāra]jīva says: "Whether it is an actual burning or not an actual burning, when sentient beings see the burning, they immediately awaken to impermanence; he then withdraws it so that it is not burned."
