In the assembly was a bodhisattva named Dharmarāja, who said: "Virtuous sirs, arising and cessation are two. Dharmas originally do not arise, and now they have no cessation. Attaining this forbearance of the non-arising of dharmas is entering the Dharma gate of non-duality." / Second, the bodhisattvas answer. All dharmas arise and cease through causes and conditions. The Hīnayāna clings to them as real and thus as two; the Mahāyāna knows dharmas to be like illusions, so there is neither arising nor cessation, which is entering non-duality. Zhao says: "Cessation is merely the cessation of arising. If one awakens to non-arising, what is there to cease? This is the forbearance of the non-arising of dharmas. This bodhisattva, through contemplating arising and cessation, awakened to the path, and thus spoke of his own understanding as the Dharma gate of non-duality. Below it demonstrates that among the ten thousand dharmas, departing from the real is entirely called duality; therefore, it is spoken of in terms of non-duality."
