答曰。以空空　肇曰。夫有由心生。心因有起是非。之滅妄相所存故以空智。而空於有者。則有而自空矣。豈更屏除然後為空乎。生曰。上空惠空。下空理空。

"[Vimalakīrti] replied: 'They are empty through emptiness'"—Sengzhao says: "Being arises from the mind; the mind arises because of being. When right and wrong are extinguished, deluded marks reside nowhere; therefore through the wisdom of emptiness one empties being, and being is of itself empty. Could it be that one must clear it away only after which it becomes empty?" Daosheng says: "The upper 'emptiness' is the wisdom of emptiness; the lower 'emptiness' is the principle of emptiness."
