於是維摩詰。不起于座於眾會前化作菩薩。相好光明威德殊勝蔽於眾會　此下三明現化往。文三。一化往。二問訊。三眾歎。初中文四。此初現化使往也。所以化蔽眾會者欲令彼眾覩勝化而尋本也。

Thereupon Vimalakīrti, without rising from his seat, in front of the assembled gathering manifested an emanation bodhisattva, whose marks, radiance, and awe-inspiring virtue were so extraordinary that they eclipsed the assembled gathering.
Below this is the third [section], clarifying manifesting an emanation to go. The text has three parts: first, the emanation goes; second, conveying greetings; third, the assembly praises. Within the first are four parts; this is the first, manifesting an emanation and sending him to go. The reason the emanation eclipsed the assembled gathering is that he wished to cause that assembly to behold the supreme emanation and trace back to the source.
