佛告天帝。當知是善男子善女人。聞是不可思議解脫經典信解受持讀誦修行福多求彼　三正校量勝。生曰。衣食供養本以施功致福。非求理之法據。此正可生人天之中。終不得成佛也。供養法身者。以佛所體為懷之於大悟智慧而以相比。豈可同年語優劣哉。

The Buddha told the Lord of Devas: 'You should know that if a good man or good woman hears this scripture of inconceivable liberation, faithfully understands, accepts and upholds, reads, recites, and practices it, their merit surpasses that.' Third, directly comparing the superiority. Daosheng says: 'Making offerings of food and clothing fundamentally relies on the exertion of giving to bring forth merit; it is not the method of seeking the principle. Based on this, one can merely be born among humans and devas, and will never attain Buddhahood. Making offerings to the dharmakāya takes what the Buddha realized as one's aspiration, resting on the wisdom of great awakening. When compared with this, how could their superiority and inferiority be spoken of in the same breath?'
