At that time, the Buddha was preaching the Dharma in the Āmrapālī Grove. That place suddenly became vast, spacious, and adorned, and the entire assembly turned golden. / The text of the chapter has three [parts]: first, explaining that the business being finished, they return to the Buddha; second, explaining the differences in Buddha-activities; third, requesting the Dharma and returning to their land. The first text again has four [sub-parts]: 1. manifesting signs; 2. going to the Buddha; 3. asking after his welfare; 4. the Buddha's praise. The first sub-part has three [points]; this is the first, manifesting signs. Zhao says: "The consummate person has no fixed abode; when principle accords, he is contiguous with the Tathāgata. Although Jingming's perspective and location differed, his wondrous intent lay elsewhere. This is why they came and went, transforming together to jointly propagate the inconceivable Way. Through sending [messengers] to inquire after his illness, what was illuminated was as above. Now, as they are about to approach the Tathāgata to seal this scripture, they first manifest this auspicious omen to inspire the minds of the multitude."
