"Therefore, O wise ones! If a śrāvaka has broken the three refuges, the five precepts, the eight precepts, the bhikṣu precepts, the bhikṣuṇī precepts, the śrāmaṇera precepts, the śrāmaṇerikā precepts, the śikṣamāṇā precepts, and the various rules of deportment; and due to ignorance, unwholesomeness, and evil, perverted intentions, has extensively violated the precepts and the rules of deportment—if they wish to eliminate [these offenses] so that no faults or harms remain, and return to being a bhikṣu endowed with the śramaṇa's dharma, they should diligently cultivate the reading of the vaipulya sūtras, contemplate the profound emptiness of the ultimate truth, and cause this wisdom of emptiness to accord with their mind. One should know that in each thought-moment of this person, all stains of sin will be eradicated forever without remainder. This is called fulfilling the rules of a śramaṇa and possessing all deportment, worthy of receiving all offerings from humans and devas.
