經曰即以道眼觀視世界者　述曰。此明孝事也。孝事有五。一追訪。二得見。三痛苦。四往救。五無益。目連即以天眼伸𨶳三界。傍觀六趣。盡其神力追覓其母也。

[The sūtra says:] "he immediately used the eye of the path to survey the worlds." / The commentary says: This explains the filial deeds. Filial deeds are fivefold: first, searching; second, catching sight; third, grieving; fourth, going to save; fifth, having no benefit. Maudgalyāyana immediately used the divine eye to gaze through the three realms and broadly view the six destinies, exerting his supernormal powers to the utmost to search for his mother.
