第九非親理各各辨衣賈　此亦大負跋難陀出息之物欲為作衣。求咸息利。難陀聞之即念一家求衣。佛所不許。二家合作。不犯所制。便作因緣。詣二居士。強令合作所樂之衣。彼於難陀不隨所欲。又今所作染色賈量。以有所在而難陀釋子強令合作。於三種中悉過本。言當如是如是。如我所欲又得衣便去。不為減利。二俱兩失。極大瞋恨。因是結戒。亦應任彼。

Ninth: Unrelated persons each preparing robe-funds. Here too, [two householders] heavily owed Upananda goods lent at interest, and wished to make a robe for him, seeking to reduce the interest. When Nanda heard of it, he thought: "Seeking a robe from a single household is not permitted by the Buddha; but if two households work together, it will not transgress what was instituted." He then made an occasion to go to the two householders, forcibly making them collaborate on the robe he fancied. Those two did not follow Nanda's desires; moreover, the colour, dye, price, and dimensions of what they were now making were already fixed, yet the Śākyan Nanda forcibly made them collaborate, and in all three matters it exceeded the original agreement, saying: "It must be like this and like that, according to my wish." Furthermore, having obtained the robe, he departed without reducing the interest for them. Both suffered both losses and were exceedingly enraged. On this account, the precept was formulated: it also must be left to them.
