The precept against eating food praised and respected by a nun: The Mahāsāṃghika[-vinaya] states: "If a nun says to a donor: 'So-and-so among the assembly is thoroughly learned and energetic; you should invite them all,' this is entirely called food obtained by praise. If she says: 'The leader of so-and-so's assembly is learned and energetic,' because it refers to this monk, addressing a worldly person is called praising, whereas other cases are not an offense. If, when a dānapati provides an offering, a monk arrives at the house and even a single nun says: 'There is a monk outside,' and the donor says: 'Even if I purposely invited him I could not obtain him, how much more so when he comes on his own!'—this is called praising. If a nun says: 'The monk at the gate is an araṇya and fine meditation master,' obtaining food in this manner constitutes an offense. If food is thus praised, one must exchange food sequentially; one must not discard the food and leave. If a monk's seat is dirty and defiled and one does not wish to exchange with him, one should form the thought: 'The food in this bowl belongs to monk so-and-so; I shall eat it.' Eating in this manner incurs no offense."
