Sūtra: "Each flower has ten billion lands, each land has one Śākya..." / Commentary: Third, the ten billion Buddhas. Here, one million is taken as a koti (yi). If we rely on this sūtra, there is a thousand-petaled flower, and on each and every petal there are ten billion lands. Taking one four-continent [world] as one land, there are then a thousand groups of ten billion. However, the Abhidharmasamuccaya states: "A hundred koṭis of suns and moons and a hundred koṭis of Mount Sumerus constitute one great trichiliocosm, which simultaneously forms and simultaneously disintegrates." This was spoken in reliance on the world of a single flower. In ultimate truth, there are a thousand great trichiliocosms that simultaneously disintegrate and simultaneously form. This is said in accordance with adaptation to beings to be transformed, merely speaking of a thousand and so forth. In ultimate truth, a single Buddha transforms sixteen realms; furthermore, by the power of vows, he is said to transform a great trichiliocosm.
