1.33

經。佛告諸菩薩言至自誦佛法戒　釋曰。第二正釋戒相有二。一略歎勸持。二佛告下正釋戒相。前中有二。一略歎勸持。二佛子諦聽下教所被機。前中有三。一勸誦。二歎德。三是故大眾下結勸誦持。前中有二。此即第一顯佛自誦。謂佛世尊憶昔有思。所以常誦。又攝益他。故自誦出。

Sūtra: The Buddha addressed the bodhisattvas, saying: [...] to "I myself recite the Buddha-dharma precepts." / Commentary: Second, directly explaining the characteristics of the precepts has two [parts]: 1. briefly praising and encouraging [their] upholding; 2. from "The Buddha addressed..." below, directly explaining the characteristics of the precepts. The former contains two [parts]: 1. briefly praising and encouraging [their] upholding; 2. from "Disciples of the Buddha, listen attentively!" below, the faculties suited to the teaching. The former contains three [parts]: 1. encouraging recitation; 2. praising [their] virtues; 3. from "Therefore, great assembly..." below, concluding by encouraging recitation and upholding. The former contains two [parts], and this is the first: showing the Buddha's personal recitation. That is to say, the Buddha, the World-Honoured One, recollecting his past intentions, constantly recites them. Furthermore, in order to embrace and benefit others, he personally recites them aloud.
