Ninth, explaining the distinctions of grasping (upādāna) has two parts: 1. explaining the self-entity of grasping, which has four parts: (1) explaining the grasping of sensual desires (kāmopādāna), which has two parts: a. designation, b. explanation; (2) explaining the grasping of views (dṛṣṭy-upādāna), which has two parts: a. designation, b. explanation; (3) explaining the grasping of precepts and vows (śīlavratopādāna), which has two parts: a. designation, b. explanation; (4) explaining the grasping of self-theories (ātmavādopādāna), which has two parts: a. designation, b. explanation; 2. correlating with the realms, which has two parts: (1) the desire realm, (2) the three realms.
