The ninth 'furthermore' explains the two concentrations of one part and so forth, divided into three: 1. explaining the concentration cultivating one part, divided into two: (1) question; (2) answer, divided into two: a. brief; b. extensive; 2. explaining the concentration cultivating the complete parts, divided into two: (1) question; (2) answer; 3. explaining the obstacles to the two concentrations, divided into five: (1) general presentation; (2) citing the sūtra to enumerate the names; (3) questions and answers, divided into two: a. question; b. answer, divided into four: (a) brief answer; (b) enumeration of names; (c) explaining the basis; (d) explaining the entity of the obstacles; (4) explaining the characteristics of the obstacles, divided into eleven: a. explaining the obstacle of doubt; b. explaining the obstacle of slackening in expedient means, divided into three: (a) explanation; (b) simile; (c) application to phenomena; c. explaining the obstacle of not guarding the sense-doors and so forth; d. explaining the obstacle of excessive sleep and excessive wakefulness; e. explaining the obstacle of overly zealous energetic striving; f. explaining the obstacle of excessive exertion; g. explaining the obstacle of exhilaration; h. explaining the obstacle of great fear; i. explaining the obstacle of manifold notions, having two alternative explanations as in the treatise; j. explaining the obstacle of excessive speech; k. explaining the obstacle of extreme analytical scrutiny; (5) distinguishing the obstacles, divided into two: a. explaining obstacles of specific characteristics; b. explaining obstacles of collective characteristics.
