Twenty-one: Explication of the verses demonstrating the two kinds of correct practice—householder and monastic—and all the benefits of the fruits of correct practice, has three parts: 1. Indicating the sūtra phrases has two parts: (1) Praising the cause that can accomplish. (2) Praising the fruit that is accomplished. 2. Explaining the sūtra text has two alternative approaches: First, clarifying faith, shame, and so forth, based on monastic accomplishment and that which is accomplished, has two parts: (1) Clarifying the cause has four parts: [1] Clarifying faith. [2] Clarifying shame. [3] Clarifying precepts. [4] Clarifying giving, which has two parts: a. Indicating. b. Explaining, which has two parts: (a) Clarifying the giving of material wealth. (b) Clarifying the giving of Dharma. (2) Clarifying the fruit has two parts: [1] Indicating. [2] Explaining, which has three parts: a. Praised fruit. b. Fruit of nirvāṇa. c. Fruit of birth in heaven. Second, clarifying faith, shame, and so forth, based on householder accomplishment and that which is accomplished, has two parts: (1) Clarifying the cause has four parts: [1] Clarifying faith. [2] Clarifying shame. [3] Clarifying precepts. [4] Clarifying giving. (2) Clarifying the fruit has two parts: [1] Fruit in the present life. [2] Fruit in a future life. 3. Clarifying the summarized meaning has three parts: (1) Indicating. (2) Explaining has two parts: [1] Based on the cause. [2] Clarifying the summarized meaning based on the fruit. (3) Conclusion.
